A Letter to Ukrainian Mothers
They say “God knew we would need strength to endure and made us as strong as we are because he knew what it would take to be a mother.” In times of peace or war. In times of health or sickness. In times of joy or sorrow. In times of child bearing or child lose, a mother’s strength and endurance is a light to this world. Love that knows no boundaries. Strength that knows no color. A universally accepted and felt sentiment towards the life givers of this world. As I write this, I think of my mother — each time I do, my heart is filled with joy. A joy so familiar and yet that feels exciting as new every time.
When the world shows it’s ugly face — such as during times of war, it is this love it wants to burry. It is the strength it is most afraid of. Women of Ukraine, as we see the recent war on your country unfolds, our screens show your suffering faces. We see you as you frantically try to shield your children from the horror of this war. Fleeing the place you called home. Forced to leave your husband, partner, sons & families behind. Forced to bear arms and protect what is yours. Your drive is not the acquisition of land or fortune. Your drive is the love you have for those near and dear to you. Your drive is the budge of honor you wear — a mom to those you have brought to this world and a mom to those you have never met.
The enemy works like a machine to destroy you. As it tries to take your freedom, the world watches. The world acts. The ever giving hands of your neighboring countries & beyond welcome you. In most part of the world…
